ROBOCALLS: The uglyness of Canadian politics...

You heard about it: Voters received fraudulent robotized calls informing them the polling stations moved and using Elections Canada's name.

We now know that the ditchable cell phone used to order the calls was in the name of Pierre Poutine, of separatist street in Joliette, Quebec. We also know that such street does not exist in Joliette, and that Pierre Poutine is in fact someone using the name of a Guelph ON restaurant called Pierre's Poutine, and that the joint is a stone's throw away from the Conservative Party's Guelph branch.

The scandal is being described in the kind of terms common in authoritarian countries. Only Federal Election Day 2011, Canadian voters were disenfranchised, misdirected, cheated. Election fraud occurred. We now know that some of the callers explicitly identified with the Conservative Party of Canada.

Tories are trying HARD (a little too hard if you ask me) to divert media attention towards Elections Canada, and the NDP (New Democratic Party). An unknown back-bencher, Maurice Vellacott, released a statement to media on Monday suggesting Elections Canada incompetence is behind the robocalls scandal. Now that is one statement that will come back to bite him in the ass!!!!

Maurice Vellacott: Is this fucking guy for real????

“I suspect that at the end of the day, if Elections Canada has the resources to do a proper investigation, they’ll find they’re themselves significantly responsible, that tech issues with marrying EC lists to available, electronic phone lists is part of the problem, and in a few instances there may have been malfeasance by one Party or the other'' said Vellacott.

A court order executed on an Edmonton call centre in November specifically refers to records related to the campaign of Conservative candidate Marty Burke in Guelph. A slew of former employees at a call centre in Thunder Bay, Ont., revealed on Monday they were using a script to make live calls on behalf of the Conservative party that contained erroneous information about voting locations:

“We would call these (voters) and they would say ‘we went there and that’s not a real place''
“The whole call centre (noticed it was happening).”
“We called the RCMP, We actually also told our supervisor about it.”

But no action was taken at the call centre and employees were told to stick to the script.

Postmedia News and the Ottawa Citizen reported evidence of a “systematic voter-suppression campaign” against Liberals in tight ridings during last May’s federal election. To be continued!!!!
